Meet the Author

Joan Kufrin has helped turn novices into professional writers throughout her 25-year writing career, including 10 years as vice president and director of corporate communications for the Leo Burnett Company. There, the publications she produced garnered International Association of Business Communicators Gold Quill and Spectra awards, National Addy Gold and Art Direction Magazine Creativity awards.

Her by-line has appeared in New York, Saturday Evening Post, Christian Science Monitor, New York News, New Woman, Chicago Tribune magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago magazine.

She is the author of Leo Burnett, StarReacher  (biography); and Uncommon Women (biography and interviews with nine American icons): Gwendolyn Brooks, Mary McCarthy, Maria Tallchief, Alice Neel, Julie Harris, Roberta Peters, Mary Lou Williams, Sarah Caldwell and Eugenia Zukerman.

In playwright mode, Kufrin has had three plays produced:  Not In My Name!  Here Lie the Demons, and The Messenger (Dramatic Publishing Co.). Her award-winning screenplay, The Trial of Jean Gump,  has not yet been produced.

Kufrin designed Write Tight, Edit Tough® to simplify the writing and editing process for business writers who must daily transform the minute, the complex, the mundane, into compelling copy that grabs a reader’s attention and keeps it riveted, from beginning to end.
